I want to replace the Rectifier Regulator on my 82 550ltd C3.Mine has a 5 wire plug, and white w/red stripe wire to the battery. Z-1 shows a regulator for my bike that has only the plug, without the white w/ the red stripe? I'm almost certain this has not been replaced since 82. There are other RR's that look like the one I have on, for other 82 models. Has anyone run into this during a replacement?
Any input welcome! Thanks
Which brings up the following:
Rectifier/Regulator - direct replacement Kawasaki KZ550 KZ750
RI10-305
Old rectifiers / regulators can deteriorate with age causing batteries to be overcharged, or not charged enough, fuses to blow and much worse - wiring to cook and catch fire. Replace your rectifier / regulator with this new direct replacement unit.
Fits Kawasaki KZ550 KZ750N
$104.50

If Z1E says it will fit, chances are very good that it will.
The Z1E unit appears consistent with the 1982 KZ550C LTD wiring diagram which shows six wires to reg/rec combo unit (being 3 yellow, 1 blk/yel, 1 brown, and 1 white/red).
Good Luck!

3 yellows from alternator
blk/yel to ground
white/red to battery positive
brown --- am uncertain, but thinking sensor wire associated with the dashboard brake light failure indicator light.
Good Luck!

The Pic from Z1 looks correct except for the white wire W/the red stripe that goes to the + terminal. I currently want to replace a shindengen, this has the five wires going into the plug, with the white w/red stripe coming out on it's own and long enough to reach the + Terminal. I don't see that with the Z1 pic, and that was my cause for confusion.

The cheaper one may not have the correct wiring. Most 550's used a 6-wire plug with only 5 wires in it, then the output wire (red or white or red/white or white/red) was seperate with a bullet connector on the end.
Always double check to make sure the correct color wires are matched up on the connectors. Many bikes use basically the same reg/rec, but the connectors and wire sequence is different. You just have to pull the wires out of the connectors and place them in the right order.
Note the cheaper one has female connections. I think yours uses male connections on the reg/rec unit. Again, double check the wire match-up when you get it.

You are correct, I talked to someone at Z1, It showed a R10-305 for my Bike, the other 82 models show both 305 and the 306 with. I ordered the 306, should be here sometime Friday.
I've been working on this thing off and on for almost a year.
Hopefully I'll be riding this weekend!! Thanks again everyone for all your input!
