melted solenoid was created by clutch85
hello i am trying to rewire a 1980 kz440 and i am probably the dumbest person when it comes to this stuff but there is only one way to learn, any way like an idiot i didnt use any fuses and i had an issue when i tried to start the motor and the wire from the positive side of battery got really hot and melted a hole thru the top of the solenoid where the corresponding terminal is. I found some bare spots on the wire and the wire that goes to the rectifier and think they may have touched and caused it My question is did i possibly ruin any other components and where can i find the cheapest replacement for the solenoid

thank you !!!!!!

Take your solenoid to the nearest riding lawnmower shop. They have solenoids tha should fit after a little work.

The dealer probably wants $$ but for less than $15 you'll get a solenoid to get back on the road.

I'd suggest getting some new battery cables made up.Most welding supply stores sell 6 gauge welding cable by the foot and the battery stores can probably crimp/swage on new terminal ends for the new cables.
