hello i am wiring a 1980 440 and i really have no previous knowledge of this subject but have been trying to learn the best i can. i wanted to give a quick rundown of what i have before i buy a battery and give it a try. i literaly am trying to do the bare minimum to run the engine so this is what i have so far: i have wire from points to coils a wire from the coils to the start button a wire from start button to selanoid wire from selanoid to starter motor two wires from alternator to rectifier wire from rectifier to selanoid selanoid to positive and finally negative terminal to earth i do not have a ignition switch
i am sorry for my lack of competance on this subject but i love riding and really want to learn the in and outs of motorcycles thank you for any help!

I would put in a fuse box. Remember the bike you are riding is inches away from your family jewels.....:laugh:
I would recommend you study the full schematic for the bike's electrical system. Figure out the minimum you want to make it legal and go for it.
