lost spark was created by dadoo
i have a 1980 ltd 1000 with <10000 miles. bike runs great and then i lose spark to cyls. 1&4. if i pull plug wire on #4 and hook up and ground to engine another plug while bike is running #1 cyl. will pick up and i get spark to #4. when i switched coil 1&4 to 2&3 problem stayed with 1&4 cyl. coils as well as igniter check out within specs using ohmeter. i was told the p/u coils may be bad. does anyone have a set for a cheap price or i have other kz parts like handle bar light switches and parts for kz1000,gauge cluster for kz440 4ohm coils and k/n pods for kz650 to trade.
thanks,
dave

dadoo, welcome to the KZR nation. Great to have you here.
IMHO, you could use the 4 Ohm Coils you have for trade... if they fit mechanically.
Points ignition systems usually call for 5 Ohm Coil(s) and my Dyna S Electronic Ignition system calls for 3 Ohm(s)... so at 4 Ohms you are kind of in the middle.
The points should wear out just a little faster and the e-ignition should produce a little less spark but this could be a work-around solution that gets you on the road now. Then you can implement a longer term solution over the winter months.
Best of success.

I believe the Kawi OEM coils for points ignition are four Ohms. That's what mine is. A four or five Ohm coil should work fine. Z1 sells the OEM replacement four Ohm coils for $36.
However, since you said:

It probably is not the coil.when i switched coil 1&4 to 2&3 problem stayed with 1&4 cyl.
