Does not work which way?
Examples...
Speed is off..
Cable is turning but speedometer analog gauge is not turning...
Odometer is working but not analog speedometer needle...
Possibly broken cable based on questions above...
Possibly bad sending unit based on above....
We'll need a little more info...
OMR

oxcadillacxo, IMHO there are two different and possibly unrelated fault symptoms being described above. Therefore, I see two different sets of troubleshooting procedures.
A---
Symptom: Speedometer does not indicate any speed...
Procedure:
1) Disconnect the speedometer cable assembly from the front wheel hub.
2) Rotate the wheel and observe the front wheel's cable drive unit.
3) If the drive unit does not rotate, be prepared to repair or replace the drive unit.
4) If the drive unit rotates then the unit is probably good and the speedometer cable assembly can be reconnected.
5) With the cable assembly reconnected to the front wheel hub next disconnect the cable assembly from the speedometer unit.
6) Rotate the front wheel and observe inner drive cable.
7) If the inner cable does not rotate, be prepared to replace the speedometer cable assembly.
If the inner cable rotates then the cable assembly is probably good.
9) Be prepared to repair or replace the speedometer assembly.
B---
Symptom: All instrument cluster lights are off...
Procedure:
1) All instrument lights are connected to the (-) Battery by the Black/Yellow wire circuit. Use a meter to check for continuity from an instrument cluster light bulb socket ground connection to the (-) Battery terminal.
2) If (-) Battery circuit is faulty be prepared to repair or replace the Black/Yellow wire circuit.
3) If (-) Battery circuit is good, use a meter to test the (I don't remember the colour code) (+) Battery wire circuit.
4) If (+) Battery circuit is faulty, be prepared to repair or replace this wire circuit.
5) If (+) Battery circuit is good, be prepared to test or replace all the instrument cluster lights.
5) If all the instrument cluster lights are good, be prepared to clean or repair the instrument cluster light bulb sockets.
That should be enough to get you started. Hope this helps.
Best of success.
Bill
PS
You may want to layoff the CAPS Lock... my ears are hurting and it’s not considered particularly friendly.
Thanks
