DUUUUUUDES,

NEED HELP!!

Need to loose the speggetti. Want to update to dyna ignition, coils. Also, have to loose the ancient reg/rec for solid state.

I am thinking of using one of my 1982/83 katana 1100 harnesses and system but I have no idea what kind of generator is on these bikes. My kats have three wires(3 phase) kz has 5 wires

Anyone who has done the update please chime in with your wisdom....

cheers,

What are the 5 wires? I've only seen 3 wires on the 77 KZ1000 alternators. There is also a neutral wire and an oil-pressure wire down there.

Or do you mean the reg/rec wiring?

The 77 KZ 1000 uses a permanent magnet alternator with three phase stator.

The alternator puts out AC on the three wires (usually pink, blue, and yellow or all three yellow).

The rec/reg will need:
three AC input wires (usually all yellow, or pink, blue and yellow),
one 12v output wire (usually red or white),
one ground (usually black or black/yellow, or black/white),
and possibly one sense-wire (brown on most KZ's that have it).

I could be mistaken. I followed the bundle from the sprocket cover and it is a molex plug with 5 wires. My suzuki stator is three yellow into the reg/rec then the r/r has red power and black/wht ground.

ON Suzuki, the blue is neutral and green is oil

IF the z is only the three then I think I may be good to go then?
Thanks for the reply

Yes. The other two in the plug are for neutral and oil.

You might see the side stand switch wiring down there too. I'd trace the wiring before cutting/splicing.
