Grounding issues on my '82 GPZ750 was created by schmol
Hello people, I'm doing the wiring on my gpz750 and it seems all of my wires that should be grounds actually have 12 volts running through them.

Yes, I did look for a melted or shorted wires and came up empty. The one thing I did find it when I have my igniter plugged in, the ground produce a 12 volts charge and when it's unplugged nothing.

Could it be my igniter is shot??

If you suspect the igniter is shot, try making up a replacement using off the shelf GM ignition modules.

The cost will be far less than what Kawasaki wants for a part.

I'd recommend that silicone RTV compound be used to shock mount the resistor and diodes from vibration and moisture.

"ground produce a 12 volts charge"....

Not trying to insult you here but are you sure about this measurement?

Meaning your chassis is carrying current henceforth +12Vdc....

Reasoning I ask, not sure your meter would pick this voltage up...

Your chassis is normally electrically connected to your frame. With your black meter probe on battery ground or frame and you place your red meter on the frame, how is it possible to measure +12Vdc.... They're the same potential so it would not measure any difference.... :S

Do you get different measurements with your black meter lead on the battery negative (-) versus the chassis?

Also if the chassis is truly grounded, applying +12Vdc to it will blow the main fuse, no doubt...

Maybe I'm just not understanding the situation....

My frame isnt showing a 12v charge at all, going by the wiring schematic in the back of my service guide, every Y/B(yellow/black) wire should be a ground, but they are all showing 12v current....

Is battery connected backwards?

Good Luck! :)

That's my point! the Y/B conductor is ground, so how are you measuring +12Vdc is beyond me...

For you to measure this and for us to help you, please describe/depict where you have your meter probes connected to...
