Speedo Cable Length

I currently have an '82 KZ750 TWIN CSR. The speedo cable is broken at the base and I am currently looking for a new or used replacement. The problem is this:

I took the speedo cable off and took it to the local bike parts yard. He had several speedo cables from KZ's, but.....they were all about 3 inches shorter than mine.

I have searched online @ Bike Barn, but they don't have my model but a 650 CSR from the same year. I don't want to buy the cable for the 650 CSR only to find it too is shorter.

Any advice????
