78' kz 650sr ignition issues was created by tugmonkey77
 HELP!!!!!! I just finished re-building my 78' 650sr top to bottom. I re-wired and replace all bad or almost bad parts. I triple checked everything! But when I started her the 1st time she was only running on cylinders 2 and 4. so I tried static timing but got no juice to 1 and 4. I then went back over everything and tucked her in for the night. The next morning there was only juice to 1 and 4. 2 and 3 were out. I have done every test on cylinders, coils, regulator and everything else i can think of. I got some iffy reading on the regulator but don't know if that would give me this issue. She's hot to hit the road please, any advice is extremely welcome!

Are you running points? If so check the insulators around the springs for shorting.Has the capacitors been replaced lately?

pull the plug caps off and check those if they are stock they should be 5kohm resistance caps.

You could try pulling the caps and trimming 1/4" off the insulation. Also, the regulator regulates the amount of current to your charging system, so it is not the source of your problem. Check the yellow wire w/red stripe to the 2&3 coil for power.
