1982 GPz750 Ignition question was created by motorpsycho67
Hey everyone, FNG here. I tried a search for the information and didn't come up with exactly what I need, so here goes...

Does the Dyna-S ignition eliminate the need for the stock IC Igniter? If not, can I graft an igniter from a ZR7S onto my GPz?

My GPz has been sitting for 3 years and I'm dying to get back on it. Help!

Oh, I also need to rering it. Anything I should know that the manual doesn't mention. Parts availability?

Thanks

The Dyna S is stand-alone. It doesn't use any seperate igniter box. It has all of the electronics built into the timing-plate unit.

The Dyna III (older model Dyna ignition) used a seperate igniter box.

What is wrong with the stock electronic ignition?

Which manual do you have? If you have the Kawasaki shop manual for the KZ750, then you have the best available manual. Rings are still available through Kawasaki (order then through www.z1enterprises.com as they will be cheaper then through your local Kawasaki dealer).

Great, that's what I wanted to know.

So the Dyna-S replaces both the pulse coil and IC Igniter.

Also, can anyone tell me how many ohms the stock ign. coils are?

2.8 to 3.0 OHMS for the stock coils. The Dyna Green coils are also 3 OHMS.

Huh, I just popped over to the Z1 Ent. site and they say that the 2.2 ohm coils would be the stock equivalent.

You can go up in coil resistance with a slight loss of energy but not down as the coils will burn out because they run hotter.

Thanks, I'm aware of that.
