Sounds like some wires got crossed and shorted out the start button.

Before I go looking for a switch is there anything else it can be? I can't think of anything. All else is fine.
Is it possible I damaged my elec ignition?

You can use acetone (carb or brake cleaner spray) squirted onto a Q-tip to clean contacts. If you can clean up the contacts with some fine sandpaper(400-600 grit) and then use a good contact spray cleaner(Not WD-40!!)

The elec ignition should have nothing to do with activating the starter, but it's possible to burn a set of contacts in the ignition switch if the current that smoked the fuse went through the switch.I tried cleaning the contacts but no luck.

A buddy had an extra control, so we swapped the switch and that fixed it and I got to keep the switch for no charge.
So big thanks to all.
