Hello fellow motorists, I am a new owner of a 93 kz1000p. I've had it about 2 weeks and put a little over 1000 miles and no problems until yesterday. I would take my hand off the throttle and it would not coast as usual, but lose almost all its coasting power and almost stop and also sometimes it would delay a little bit when I would get on the throttle. Then there was a huge backfire and it went completely dead. I tested the battery and it had plenty of power. It does not turn over. No lights go on, not even the head light, but the emergency lights work. Any ideas as to what the problem may be? The odometer clams to have 28k miles, but I am under the impression it is 128k. I am a very amateur mechanic and just purchased the clymer manual. Any help is much appreciated, thanks.
Joe

I will safely state you have other fuses in that bike... Start there.

The back fire could have been something as simple that since you were driving down the road the power (fuse opened) and since the pistons where still pumping it back fired on you...

First things first, check your fuses and get your power back... Hell my 1976 has 3 main fuses and yours being 1993, you'll have more no doubt....

Chances are this is all you'll have to contend with....

When these bikes were sold, a lot of wiring was hacked off to remove lights, sirens, radio's and other equipment.

I'd start by opening up the headlight housing and see if any wires are loose/shorting. Trouble shooting will be a hair pulling experiance at best.

I checked the fuses and they appeared to look ok. The second day I owned the bike I had the front fairing taken off and replaced with just a head light and signals at hollywood motors (wouldnt recommend going there). So my only guess is something with the electrical systems under the seat. There are a lot of loose wires where other equipment was previous connected. Should I just start re-wiring the bike??
