Another Wired George mod question...
09 Jun 2009 11:28 - 09 Jun 2009 11:29
Hi, I have been quite interested in doing the WGCM on my kz1000...I know there is another question about this up right now, but I didn't want to hijack, so here goes:
the #30 lead is connected to the starter relay bolt. Where is that? could I just run it to my positive battery terminal?
#87 runs to the red wire on the ignition coils...do I hook the #87 lead to the power wires from BOTH coils, or do I need 2 relays and hook them up separately? How does the bike fire the cylinders separately when they have the same power? dumb I know, but I am learning...
Thanks

The starter relay bolt connects directly to the battery positive (tracing the big wire from the positive terminal will take you to the relay bolt) so yes, you can connect #30 to the battery positive - same thing just a different location. I guess using the starter realy bolt is to avoid cluttering up the battery positive with multiple wires.
And yes, you hook #87 to both coils - #87 is 12V supply to the coils, the points/pickups will determine when each coil fires. The KZs run what is known as wasted spark meaning both cylinders on one coil will fire at the same time (1/4 together and 2/3 together) though only one cylinder will be on the compression stroke, hence the other spark is wasted.
