Can I repair my plug cap or do I need a new one?

So, like a total bonehead, I ripped the spark plug cap off the ignition coil wire from my 1980 KZ750E. There is a black coated wire hanging out about a half-inch from the end of the coil wire, but I don't see how I could reconnect it without cutting up the rubber housing.

Does anyone know if there is a way to repair the wire/cap, or do I need to buy a new wire. If I need a new wire/cap, can someone point me to a good place to buy one, and can I buy just one, or do I need to get all four?

Thanks,
Chris

Check with www.z1enterprises.com They sell NGK sparkplug wire/lead splices. Is the sparkplug cable/wire/lead replaceable or is it glued to the coil?

the plug caps just thread on what i normally do is cut back about 1/4" or so until i get nice fresh wire exposed and then screw it back on the rubber coating if it gets in the way it is ok to cut it back a bit.

You did not rip anything. The cap has a spike that 'screws' into the wire copper core splitting the strands. The set up is rather flimsy, but that's the way it is. "Cut it and screw it" as Timebomb said.

You may want to post a picture of the problem area so we can be sure about what happened. Ed

You should be able to spread the metal opening on the spark plug cap (so you can insert the wire again), fold the black carbon wire back on the rubber spark plug wire so it will make good contact with the metal park of the spark plug cap, and slide it back into the cap. Then pinch the cap so the metal is tight against the spark plug wire and you should be ok. Ed

Is that little black wire sticking out at the end the electrical connection? I figured there would be a standard copper wire inside, but I couldn't find one.
