so this bike has sat in my buddy's garage all summer. He have up on it when he couldnt get it to fire. Im really starting to wonder weather the guy had the timing advancer set to 1&4 TDC? Or if he set the cams up without paying any attention there. Im going to have my buddy drop off the bike this weekend, ill pull the head and have a look. I bet the stupid ass dude didnt have it at TDC for 1 and 4 when he installed the cams. I think i can have it running by saturday. Im stoked now...lol

If not already done, would remove sparkplugs and observe quality of spark while spinning engine over with ignition switch ON.

Good Luck! :)

Before my buddy took the bike back to his place, it had a nice fat blue spark. Im going to start working on it tommorow.

That's a good sign, and hopefully ignition timing is okay.

While checking the cam timing, would also assure valve clearances being within specs. As this might improve compression.

Good Luck! :)

i think the timing is dead on but we will see when it gets here. I will check the valve clearences also. I hope for my buddy's sake this guy just messed up when he put the cams in by not having it on TDC for 1 and 4. He only paid 500 for it, so if i can get it running he can enjoy the last few riding days.

if not then it will be yours for cheap then right. if he wont put the dyna on it there is no helping the guy right.why is he so bound and determined to keep the points setup anyway if he already has the answer to most of his problems.

"bound and determined to keep the points "...

Whoa, I just don't understand some ppl's logic in these restorations. Oh well, that's life.

If it was mine (as I did on my 900) both coils with plug wires and EI would be the way to go... ~ $250 from Z1... Worth every penny! ;)

Let us know how it turns out for you, especially if you get this Z from your bud cheap.... :woohoo:

well, good new to report.......it runs........it lives. The p.o jackass must not have had it at 1&4 tdc when he put in the cams. I talked my budy into putting the dyna-s in......im glad..lol. Got everything buttoned up at 10:00 pm, threw some gas in the tank, flipped the choke up and she fired right up. I still have to time it with the gun but its up and running now. He dosent know if he wants to keep it or not, so i may have a new kawi in the stable before to long, a z1 none the less.
