I just replaced the original Kawasaki bulb on mine this year. The bikes a 1978 with 34,000 miles on it. The new bulb cost $4.99 at the local auto parts store. It's a non halogen replacement. Those old bikes never came with halogen lighting.

Mine came with it from one of the previous owners. Also, our local auto parts store sells sealed halogens that will fit my bike. Even some of the brighter (pricer) ones are in a sealed design for motorcycles. But they also run about 25.00 for the really bright ones and 12.00 for a base halogen style.

Hey guys, thanks again for the tips. I did some work on the old bike today and found a few things. First, I found two brown wires in the headlight bucket that had been pinched. Both had the insulation torn off down to the wire. I checked and both of these wires are hot with the igntion switch on. Neither wire is hooked to anything, so I assume maybe they are for running lights. I also put an H4 conversion kit in.

I did some checks on the charging system. The battery is full of water. Voltage with the key off is 12.7. Idling is 12.5. At 4k rpm it is 14.25V, but it takes a little time to reach there. With the regulator unplugged it is 14.5V at 4k rpm. Rectifier checks out per the Clymer manual. I tried to ohm my stator, but my wire colors don't match the manaul. Plus, I have five wires going into the blue plug. The manual only list three. I have a blue wire, white with red stripe, and three wires with some sort of wrap around them.

Thanks again

the three wrapped wires are the main charging system wires that go to the regulator and produce your voltage in ac then in the regulator/rectifier it is converted to d.c the voltage coming out of those wires should be between 50 and 70 volts ac

Thanks you sir! So do I just unplug the blue connector, start the bike, and then measure the voltage?
