I have a chance to buy a stator for my 82 1000 ltd, and am pretty sure the stator from a police model 1987 kz1000 will fit, but would like to make sure before I buy. Also, is there anything wrongh with siliconing the case back on instead of buying a new gasket?

Thanks for the help?

According to Mother Kawasaki, the last year that the stator part numbers are the same (between KZ1000-K and KZ1000-Police) is 1986 (KZ1000-P5). Something changed in 1987.

Silicone will work, but gaskets and sealant is better.

Thanks for the stator info...

regarding the gasket...I didnt realize you needed sealant too, I thought you just needed to clean the mating surfaces well, and the gasket did the rest

If I do end up using silicone, is there a certain kind I should use that's specific for use as a gasket replacement?

Thanks for the help!

I don't use a sealant on every gasket, only on certain ones...e.g. base gasket, clutch cover, stator cover, etc. I use ThreeBond products (1194 and 1211), both sold by Z1Enterprises.
