Can you trust pre-set plug gap? was created by Pro_window78
Hi, I have a 78 kz1000, I recently put plugs in it and the thought crossed my mind that ngk plugs may not be pre-gapped. Are they? If not what is the recommended gap for my bike? Thanks all!

Try 0.28 to 0.32 for a plug gap, also a tiny bit of the silver anti-seize on the first few threads(keep away from the center electrode)will ensure the plug won't gall or seize in the sparkplug hole(s).

I usually find new NGKB8ES spark plug gaps to be ideally gapped right out of the box.

Trust, but verify.

Good Luck! :)

Same here, and on the D8EA's too.

The only time I found one that was not gapped was when I saw the clerk drop the box on the floor. He looked at me like I was crazy when I said i wanted another one. I told him he just re-gapped the tip to ZERO". :) Sure enough, it was shorted.

(That was when they didn't have the cardboard tube on the plug in the box.)

Yep. I check them all as I put them in, but I have yet to need to change any.

...

Same here, have always measured the GAP to be within spec... Notice I said always MEASURED... ;)

As the others mentioned, always check them and the Anti Sieze compound is an extremely good tip I learned from Plummen and Larry C where it should always be used when steel to aluminum is the process... ;)

They are pre gapped and some are shipped with a plastic cylinder slipped on the end of the plug so it won't get hit if dropped. Of course, if some bozo drops it as he is putting it in.....

+1 on using the anti sieze compound on the threads and a torque wrench to pull them down.

always double check plug gap prior to install. Although I have not used antiseize yet on the plugs. No galling issues really in that aspect. Just remember it effects torquing numbers since the plug threads are now lubed.
