Coil Spark Plug Wire Removal?????????? was created by badrhino
Got a stupid question. I haven't worked on a bike like this for quite some time.

How do you get the Plug Wire out of the Coil. I pulled the rubber boot back and have tried to turn/pull wire out with no luck.

How do you get these wire out?

Thanks in advance.

On my 82 GPZ1100 B2 the sparkplug wires were held in with a cap that screwed to the fitting on the coil. The wires had a ferrule that was slid onto the wire and when the cap was tightened it expanded and made a waterproof joint.

The coils had a brass spike inside the port that pierced the sparkplug wire transmitting the ignition energy.

Some bikes had the sparkplug wires integrated into the coils making replacement difficult.

You may have to buy a set of Dyna coils if you can't get your plug wires replaced. I think Z1 enterprises can get what you need.

I thought the stock kawi coils had the wires molded in the coil as an assembly. That's how mine is.

you don't change them out on the stock older coils you have to replace.besides those wires would not be long enough when you use dyna coils anyway.

So are you saying that you need to buy a set of dyna coils to change spark plug wires? That sounds retarted.... why did they make the coils like that?

There must be alot of bikes with dyna coils on here because I see alot of bikes with aftermarket wires.

The wires are molded into the coil for three good reasons:

1) It provides mechanical (strain) relief for the wires to keep them attached.

2) It prevents vibration from shearing them off at the connections.

3) It makes the connection waterproof.

There are kits to attach wires on with splices at the edge of the potting on the coil. You can replace the wires that way.
