Weird little box? was created by Pro_window78
Hey everybody, I have a little rubber/tar/black stuff covered box up by my coils. Is this an ignitor box? it plugs into the harness with a plastic 4 prong plug. The bike btw is a 78 kz1000 a2. Anybody know what the thing is? Ill try to get some pics on in a bit.

The IC Igniter boxes usually have cooling fins on them and will have "IC Igniter" with either raised or stamped lettering. They have two wire cables with a four pin connector on each. One coming from the ignition pickup coils and the other going to the ignition coils.

I can't imagine having the igniter up by the coils as this is a very hot area for electronics(unless the previous owner moved it).

My old 77 KZ1000 did not have electronic ignition but I later installed a Gearex system and sold it with the bike when I bought my 82 GPZ1100 B2 in 1982.

I would have to say this is your brake light bulb failure circuit detection relay. It detects when your brake light bulb has burnt out and then makes the brake light indicator in your gauge flash.
