Other Options For Stator...... was created by gershom
I'd like to remove my stator and remove the stator cover permanently. I've seen a charging system before that fits on the right side of the motor under a modified points cover. Anyone else familiar with this?

The project is a 78 KZ1000A2A done up in era correct Superbike like form.

i think muzzy superbikes ran a kx80 dirt bike magneto type thingy there.....in keven camerons book "top dead center" there is a whole chapter written about rob muzzy building the kawasaki for a race bike where kevin is literaly walking throught the race shop back in the day and pointing at parts and discussing the tech tricks of each part and such...its really informative and i think the book is a must to regain little not easy to find knowlege peices for what folks were doing on those and other era bikes...i got mine of ebay or amazon.....pictures of your retro racer would be great...also you may wanna update your signiture in your rpofile to add your year/models/ mods/ general state and location ect...so folks will know what your up to better.....peace craig

Interesting......I'll have to get the book.

With no stator or starter, it'll be a big weight savings. The kicker will be sufficient for starting a 10:1 motor.

Just need a charging system that will support a low beam headlight and some LED turn signals housed in stock signal housings.

talk to lou about one of his capacitor charging setups to eliminate battery, still need some sort of stator for it though im thinking B)

Still recovering, some days are better than others.

Hey y'all :)

Man, there's not much room under that right side points cover. You might squeeze in a mini magneto, but it won't handle much power. Maybe enough for an ignition, but not a strong ignition. Any lighting winding will really cramp the area under the cover and it won't have much power for sure.

With a magneto, you still need to have points or an electronic ignition to trigger the magneto. A magneto is basically a small, dedicated stator to power the ignition coil. Magnetos work like CDI, which means they have a lot of voltage... useful for 2-strokes or high comp race bikes... but not a lot of spark energy because of their short duration.

I guess the first place to look for one would be old Kaw dirtbikes.
