I need a little advice from the kaw guys. I ride a Yamaha, but am working on a 79 kz1000 for a friend. Problem is when i hit the starter button, i can hear the solenoid click and the starter whir but will not turn the engine over. Is this starter shot or am i missing something on the Kaw's that i don't know about. I am asking for your guys' experience for a little help. Thanks.

Welcome to KZr emtfire1.

Sounds more like the starter clutch is worn out and/or not engaging properly.

Yeah, sound like starter clutch. Located on left side of engine behind stator. Careful stators can be bitch to get off. Starter clutch uses a ball and ramp system. Balls and springs get worn. Even a slight amount you can't see with eye can be enough.
