can't drive 55

I can do 45, or 60, or wildly swinging back and forth between the two, but the speedometer won't stay steady at around 55! I've a new cable, so I figure the guy I bought it from didn't really have it repaired.

Any other possible explanation for the speedometer tarantella?

thanks,
Ricky

check the foam between your gauge and the mounting surface. if its toast replace it. had tach issues like this. same deal swinging needle and that was the problem

If speedo is like some of the older automobile types, the needle partner in your tarentella my be stumbling for reasons other than a vibrating floor. These older speedos employed a magnetic interface between shaft and clock. Any stickiness on the clock side and they misbehave.

Thanks duck; yes the drive on the speedo is a magnetic cup. Stickiness I assume you mean internal to the speedo. Haven't removed gauge yet to check foam.
