78 KZ1000, using a different battery was created by cruspeed
I'm adding a monoshock to my 78 kz1000, in doing so I'm clipping part of my battery box out. Trying to keep it still under the seat hidden is there a physically smaller battery I can replace it with? Or even a small gel battery I can put at an angle, either way the battery needs to be smaller in size. Any ideas on which bike I can get one for?

I think the main thing you want to consider is if the battery is physically smaller you want to have one that is as close to the same amp hour rating as the original as possible so it will last. I know of a couple of people that went to a smaller size battery in custom choppers with no ill effects.

Have you been to the Yuasa battery website? they offer a very large selection of batteries that might work.

Ditto on watching the Amp-hour rating, also check CCA (cold cranking Amps). Best to get a new battery that has the same or higher rating on those specs. If you go to a battery that derates either of those by more than maybe 20%, the battery may have a short and unhappy life. It may also turn the starter slowly and make the bike hard to start.

I think the stock battery is something like a YB14A-A2 or something like that. I can't remember right off hand but try getting a Yuasa YTZ14. They're pretty expensive but they're still 14 amp-hour and are sealed from the factory. Like MFolks said take a look at Yuasa's site they should have dimensions for all their batteries.

The YTZ14S comes in different power capacities or that is the only size? I guess where it states amps, then times on hour = capacity

Here's a link to the smaller yuasa battery, capacity is a bit smaller.

here's one for a harley, about the amperage, alittle smaller capacity but it's sealed. cold cranking amps is 200. You think that would work?

ran across this one, about the same size but sealed, 14 ah and 190 CCA. Since I could mount angled or sideways for that matter may be the best bet for my bike.

the beull batteries are multi positional you can mount them sideways upside down in any position and they phisically are quite small they might be worth a look.
