reassembly of the advancer unit

hmmmm, cleaned up and lubed my advancer and now going back together it looks like when you put the collar back on the advancer body you can have the contact point lobe point toward the 1-4 mark or the 2-3 mark.

which way should it go???? my book doesnt show.

J, was there last week, fat portion of cam was @ 30 degrees before 1-4 marking. no big deal. it's right or wrong. swap only takes a couple minutes and no harm done , or can swap wires. G

thats what I was thinking too, I could always just reverse the wires if necessary. But being I'm a semi-perfectionist I think I would have to take it all back apart and do it over

Look at the points cam, there's a scribe mark on the outer end of it. Then look at the advancer body, you will see a small hole in the backplate. When installing the points cam,the scribe mark should point towards the hole.

When the 1/4 F mark aligns with case mark, cam lobe should be facing rear to open the points wired to the 1/4 coil.

Good Luck! :)

My FSM says to use a little oil on advancer unit but when I need grease I use synthetic brake lube. :)
