84 KZ700 Starter Switch Problem was created by Treeman
I am experieincing no response occasionally (and increasing frequency) when pushing the starter button. I have power and turning the key off or to lock and back on often gets me a response. Has anyone had a similar problem that can give me a headsup on what I may be in for? I'm breaking down the switch to clean up contacts.

Thanks

These switches live in a pretty harsh working conditions;vibration, sunlight exposure, and ozone all tend to oxodize the electrical contacts.

As you mentioned, taking it apart to check the contacts would be the first thing I would do. Don't forget to disconnect the battery before working on the contacts even though the switch is off.

Radio Shack sell a very good electrical contact cleaner/preservative made by Caig Labs in San Diego Ca. It's called De-oxit. www.deoxit.com is their website.

I use it on all of the electrical connectors and switches in my 82 GPZ1100 B2.
