Ok my 82 kz250 d2 is a everyday driver. I have the model with electronic ignition. I drove it three days ago about 30 mi. nothing abnormal happened when i got it home. I went out today and it wont turn over. It is getting fuel and air. So i moved to the spark. the coil seemed fine on a ohm test. the wire and cap are good. I pulled the plug and checked for spark and i got nothing. Any help would be awesome.

Would try again for spark using brand new plug.

If still no spark, check for battery voltage reaching coil with ignition switch in ON position.

Please report back with results.

Good Luck! :)

If it won't turn over:

1) Battery's dead.

2) Poor connections at battery. There are four.

3) Starter or solenoid is bad but this is not likely.

Do you have any lights?

Am reading the question to mean starter motor is spinning the engine over as normal, but the engine is not starting up and running.

Where is the 12 volts being measured? Should be measured at the coil primary terminal with ignition switch in the ON position. This is to assure battery positive voltage is reaching the coil primary.

Also assure the handlebar toggle cutoff switch is in the RUN position.

Good Luck! :)

the voltage reading i messureed was 11.15 and that was on the wire that goes to the starter realy but is connected on the positive line from the battery. this is in the on and run. I checked for fuses and they all are fine and test fine.

Existance of voltage on wire to starter relay doesn't assure voltage is reaching the coil.

As to possible post-coil issues - - -
Possibile faulty plug wire or cap.
Possible faulty connection at:
Coil > plug wire;
Plug wire > cap;
Cap > plug.

As to possible pre-coil issues - - -
Possible faulty pickup, igniter, or other pre-coil ignition component;
Possible faulty wiring connector(s).

Good Luck! :)

Edit:

As known, even a perfect coil can't emit high tension secondary voltage without receiving proper voltage to its primary.

Would aid diagnosis to know the coil is actually emitting high tension voltage, which would indicate the pre-coil components are okay, and cast more suspicion on the post-coil components such as plug wire, plug cap and plug, and post-coil connections such as coil>plug wire>cap>plug. :)

I'm thinking its the ignition unit (cdi ect.) is there a way to test the black box. all the wires on the bike are fine. I'm just at a loss here.
