led replacement for 1157 was created by riverroad
I bought some cool little turn signals last year that use these small amber 1157 type bulbs.
I like them but they keep burning out. I have them shock mounted on rubber, but I have them mounted where my side reflectors used to go, so they still get considerable engine vibration.
This is the bulb: www.jpcycles.com/productdetail.aspx?PID=...y&page=3&search=bulb
Can anyone recommend an LED replacement of similar dimensions that will fit?
And I guess I need a resister in series with it?

These are the ones I use:

They are the only ones that are as bright as the standard incandescent bulbs.

As for:

The resistor would actually be in parallel to ground to increase the current draw, but that's a shameful waste of power. Better to buy a solid state flasher unit which will work with LEDs.

Wow, nice site! Looks like they have what I need.
Thanks guys!
bountyhunter, those Lexions look like they "might" fit, but the heat sinks are kinda large. Do you remember if yours looked like the heat sinks could be ground down a little on the edges?
I do want bright signals.

The heat sinks are solid aluminum and the LEd is attached to it so I think grinding might be risky. It could damage the thing. The LED die is attached to the heatsink.

Bountyhunter, do those super bright LEDs operate just like an 1157 duel filament bulb, with signal AND running lights?

They operate exactly the same as a dual filament bulb, have a separate contact on the bottom for bright or dim "filament". But, there is only one LED so they use a different series resistor (inside the base) to make the LED brighter or dimmer depending on which of the two bottom contacts gets power. That way it looks like a dual brightness bulb just like a 1157.

Ah so, thanks for clearing that up for me bounty hunter.
a series resister. I was having a hard time figuring out how they run two circuits through one led.
Thanks!
