1981 kz 750 ltd with no spark. was created by DerekSimpson
I have a 1981 kz 750 ltd with no spark. I have 12 volts at the primary side of the coils but nothing at the plugs. It ran fine and then just would'nt start. All the ground wires look to be ok and the fuses also. It turns over fine and all the lights work. I put a new pick up coil on but it was the same way. Ic ignitor possibly? Any help would be appreciated. This is a nice forum.

Here's a thread from the archives that tells you how to test the igniter.

If it does turn out to be the igniter, you might consider buying a Dyna S ignition which negates the need for an ignitor. However, it's usually recommended to change coils at the same time, and can turn into a pricy fix unless you are planning to change coils in the near future anyways.
Judging by the prices on ebay for a used igniter, you'd think the things were made out of gold.

If the igniter is dead, you can try to build one. I've been using this one for years.

As well as checking the igniter I would suggest tracing and checking all wires and connections from the coils to the igniter and to the pickup coils.
I had a similar issue several years ago and found that I had lost the breather tube from the battery and acid had dripped down and corroded a connection between igniter and pickup.
Hopefully your problem is something simple
