Rear turn signals not working

Hi, the rear signals on my bike don't work. They are the single wire type. The front signals work fine they have two wires going to each light.

Do the rear lights not need 2 wires going to each light?

The front lights on these 80's bikes have three wires going to each light, a running light wire, a turn signal wire, and a ground wire.

The rear lights have a turn signal wire, and a ground wire.
Some guys install another set of front turn signal lights to get rear running lights with additional wiring spliced in.

I'd check the ground wires and the turn signal wires for corrosion in the connectors.Check the condition of the bulbs as vibration can break the filiments.

There is only one wire going into each of the rear lights

Are they stock lights that came with the bike or are they a custom add on? The stock lights should have two wires, one for the signal circuit and the other for the ground as most lights are vibration resistant mounted with a rubber bushing.

Yes they are stock as far as I can tell and inside the housing is only one wire soldered to the connector were you push the bulb into.

Have they suddenly quit working? Try adding a ground wire from the frame to the light housing and then try the turn signal function. The lights again should have two wires going to the turn signals.

Seems the stem is the ground but the rubber mounts get in the way so I attached a copper wire to the stem then to a near by bolt.

I'm now ready to take it to get a safety certification.

Thanks guys for the help.
