My KZ 400 making me go crazy..........argh was created by oldkaws4ever
Ok, i just got the carbs sorted out on it and got it running strong and healthy. I went out riding today, was going down a road by my house doing the speed limit, i passed a cop and he flipped on his cherries and pulled me over. Turns out my headlight went out, i figured no biggy so i flicket it to high beam and nothing:angry:    . He just gave me a warning and sent me on my way. I got home pulled the tank off and checked everything but couldnt find a loose conection anywere. For the hell of it i plugged in the headlight from my 650 and nothing. I couldnt really mess with it to much more because i had to go to work.

When i rebuilt it , i removed the turn signals and horn. the electric sart has never worked on it since i bought it, no biggy i just kick start it. I want to rewire the whole bike, i just wanna run a headlight, tail light, and gauges and my dummy lights. Im not going to lie wiring is not one of my strong points by any means. I was wondering if anybody around the chicago area would be willing to give me a hand, i would be enternally greatfull. Thanks, Jim

Well i pulled everything apart today, and sure enough i blew the fuse going to the headlight, so tommorow im going to pick up some fuses, and figure out how im going to mount my tail light.

If it's a '76 the machine isn't required to have a headlamp on full time so the cop was out to lunch on that one. Still, it's a good idea to have it on as I do pick out bikes easier with the headlamps on.

Sometimes fuses age and will fail on their own. Most times there is excessive current causing the failure so look for any place a wire may have worn through to the frame.

ya, i didn't think i needed it on, but i sure as heck wasn't going to argue that one with him.....lol. Im just glad i didn't get a ticket. The fuses were the originals so i think it just went bad with age. In going to replace all of them and clean the contact's really well while im in there just to be safe.

There is a dedicated headlight fuse on mine (8A).

Yep, a couple of years of service and they are suspect. If the wire in the glass tube is blue, darkened or bent that also means they are going bad.
