spark plug wires different on each side? was created by burkmanofgod
I almost have this bike going but something strange came up. I got some replacement plug wires and when I started to change them I noticed that the wires on the right side had twist on caps on the coils, which I like the looks of, but the left side doesn't have the twist on caps and appear to be stuck in place.

Left side with stuck in wires

Any help on getting the left side wires out without breaking something would be great.

The previous owner (P.O.) may have switched out a bad coil or two in the past. I don't know what your bike came with so can't recommend any one manufacturer of coils.

Try asking at www.z1enterprises.com they might be able to help.

The left coil does have the molded in sparkplug wires. You might be able tomget the NGK splice kit if you plan on keeping the coil.

Thanks for the help. I just found the splice kit on Z1 and they were much cheaper than a new coil. I was thinking I should splice up close to the coil so as too remove as much old wire as possible.

Quick question... Have you Ohmed out the coils?

If different, you may just want to upgrade your coils so you have an even spark....

Just a thought...

Resistance measurements of your coils using an Ohmeter/ Volt meter/DVM with resistance measurement capabilties....

The procedure is easy to accomplish, should be in your service manual... Basically you'll be doing the following...

Primary and Secondary winding measurements...
Don't know your system but for the KZ900/1000 series primary should fall between 3.2 & 3.8 ohms on the primaries.... ~ 30K ohms on the secondaries...

EDIT: Here's out of my KZ 900 manual....
