Spark Plug Wires
16 Mar 2009 19:00
I have an 83 KZ550 and we got it running but we saw sparks coming from spark plug 3 after letting it idle. We were then looking for the spark plug wires but came up short? Does anyone know how to fix it or where to get wires from?

Also, I think it is a better idea to just replace the wires anyway. Can't say that I have ever heard of anyone repairing them....especially not on a vehicle that's 25+ years old. Better to go with new and replace them all together.

Great choice for a first bike, and you've definitely come to the right place for help getting it running smoothly too! Be careful though, kz's and kzrider.com are addictive....should come with a warning label. LOL!

you will have trouble replacing those wires as they are epoxied in place in the coils you will either have to look for used or try to dig out the epoxy and try to get copper core or wire core wires to fit and reepoxy i'd go the painless route and look for used coils as long as they are the same primary resistance as your originals if you try to rebuild yours dont use carbon core wires as the secondary resistance is in your plug caps

If your ignition coils have removable sparkplug wires or ignition leads, the 7MM ones will work.
If the leads are molded into the coils then it gets a bit more difficult as now you're down to two choices: 1. replace the coils and leads as new or 2.get a splice kit from NGK to splice new leads on your old coils.
Replace the sparkplug caps as they age and become intermittant.
