STARTER REPLACEMENT/REBUILD

Wondered if someone can tell me if the case has to be cracked to remove/replace the starter on this 550?

...found this 550 locally and trying to decide if it's worth the trouble.

Thanks Mark,
just now going to look at it, but that would be a stopper, I think.

There is a cover directly below the carbs on the engine that the starter is under.

Remove the two metric bolts(10MM I think).Disconnect the starter wiring and I believe you will have to remove the left side engine/stator cover to access the starter gearing.

Have a new gasket on hand as the old one will probably tear/stick on removal.

Rebuild stater kits are available. I'd try www.z1enterprises.com first.
