Newbie Needs Help!! Lots of it!!

Got a bike that doesn't run 83 KZ 1100 LTD, i was told that all id need to do is put the carbs on and id be good. I put a battery in it, carbs on, and new spark plugs, i dont have the gas tank on yet, i hit the start button with the key on(headlight turns on and it says its in neutral) and nothing happened. i tried looking at the spark plugs when i hit the starter and no spark. Please help, id like to get this bike running asap!! I dont know much about bikes, or the electrical systems, but i can follow wires.

I have put all new oil and coolant in already so i should be good on that stuff, i just wanna know it can fire up when i put gas into the system. Thank you guys for the help, i need it!!!

It might be a safety that needs to be engaged. I know on my KZ750 it won't turn over unless the clutch lever is pulled.

quick try. pull in clutch lever. g

Kill Switch on the handlebars should be on run. Is it turning over? You won't see spark unless it's turning over.

lol im a lil drunk lol, started the weekend early, but anyway, i did try to pull in the clutch and it wouldnt do anything, also had the start on "Run" when i tried starting it, thanks for the help so far, any other suggestions? This is my first bike and first project but am exited for it to turn over, thanks for the help, any other suggestions woulb be awesome!!!

It is usually a simple answer so don't despair yet. However, I am curious what kind of 'coolant' you used for the bike?

well i couldnt tell ya, ill prolly get yelled at for this, but there was a tiny radiator looking thing on the bike so i just took it to a shop and told them to fill it up, but i am tryin to do the rest on my own. Prolly should have found out what i needed on here first and just did it, but that was before i knew this site existed. Thanks, still need suggestions on gettin the bike started

Well, it is going to be a steep learning curve. If the shop took money for that then you need to get it refunded. That 'radiator' is an oil cooler that fills automatically when you add oil to the bike. The bike shop knew this. There is no separate 'cooling' system ...Kawasaki introduced that, in think, in 1985. Are you handy with a multimeter for checking your electronics? Never fear, other KZR members should chime in as the sun emerges.

Do you hear a clicking noise when you press the starter button? Does the headlight dim when you press the starter button? Is the motor turning over but you don't have spark at the plugs? or its not turning over at all?

if the bike shop put coolant in the the oil cooler you better drain it and the oil, or you'll be really bumming when your motor is trashed, and i would post the name of the bike shop so nobody patronizes them ripping off people is not really cool

Oil cooler huh, that pisses me off, i just drained all the oil and put new oil in. The headlight does not dim, there is no clicking, and the motor is not turning over. What the hell have i gotten myself into lol. I dont have the name of the shop off hand, but ill post it on here later. The whole wiring harness seems to be intact so i dont know whats going on, and the shop said that they are a kawasaki dealer and there was never a manual made for my bike, that seems like bullshit, a manual would be extremely helpful right now i think. Its a 83 KZ 1100 LTD.
