I had a dead short in my 84 GPZ 550 and melted some wires fron my reg/rec to the battery. I replaced the carnage and corrected the short. The bike runs great but does not charge Have I fried the reg ? It got really hot. I am testing tomorrow all the components from the stator on. I assume you really cant test a reg . True? All the help I got from this board has me riding and I appreciate it.

A reg/rectifier assembly that is integrated is tested by plugging it into a working bike and see if it charges correctly. Sounds like yours got cooked.

Or you may have lost some windings on the alternator. Hard to say without further inspection of the wiring.
