tachometer cable was created by dustin
Hello, i am one season old on a 77 kz650c and have a non functioning tach cable. It seems to be impossible to remove from the engine and i was wondering what can be done. My haynes manual doesn't help much but was wondering if i have to loosen the hex nut or if it should come off seperately from the hex nut. If speperate, any suggestions to loosen the assembly from the mount? This is my first bike so be gentle with the idiot remarks thank you for your time

Welcome to the site Dustin. If your tach cable is Kawasaki or a close copy it should have a knurled ring at the engine end. That ring unscrews from the engine using pliers. If you want to protect it (or the new one if you replace it) use a piece of leather between the pliers and the ring. The pic shows the ring (left pic) and the tach connector (right pic) as they should look on a genuine Kawasaki cable. There shouldn't be any hex nuts involved. Ed
