I have an "83 KZ 1100 with a stock, cable -driven speedo that tops out at 85mph...does anyone know WHAT if any speedo with more mph on it could be used as a replacement ??

Can you put your bikes model, year, size and your location in your signature? Do you have a Spectre, GPZ, LTD, or other?
If no one else actually knows, I would guess you can buy an early or later model speedo gearbox that attaches to the front wheel. Then get a speedo that goes to 140-160 from that time frame. You have to find out if the different gearbox fits the axle and wheel. I would think it could be a simple swap.
Check the Kawasaki web site for parts diagrams. Start with the axle on your bike and see if any older models used it. If i knew your model I could do it pretty quick tho....:whistle:
