Lou, I'm pretty certain that all the 650 cranks are the same so the permanent magnet rotors should fit the 77 - I have a 77 engine out of the frame and a spare 79 rotor so I can find out for sure.
As for the rotor/stator setup I'm running a 3-phase Electrex stator with the 79 D rotor/flywheel (originally meant for a 1-phase setup) and so far it seems to work perfectly well.
Oh yeah, RD 350 was my first (legal) motorcycle, had lots of fun on that one.

The rotors will fit to the crank. The problem is the 78 and later covers and stators all look basically the same. Try to fit a different model stator to a cover it will not fit many times. They come in different sizes of course only a couple mm variation, but a couple mm is enough where the stator can't be fitted to a non matching model's cover. So I hope both the cover and stator are for the same model Kawasaki here or good chance they will not mate up.

Wow, that's a lot of wires, good luck. I managed to boil mine down to this plus a couple of relays in the headlight bucket for an H4 conversion:

And one more:
Your reg/reg may not have the brown voltage sense wire, some do and some don't - if it's not there you obviously need not worry about it.
I'll post some more detailed info and pics later.
