KZ550 blinker problems

Need some help from someone good with lighting. All 4 turn signal lights come on as running lights which I believe is normal. When initiating a right or left turn signal, the respective front/back lights get brighter in the direction I indicate, but they don't flash. I had an order into Z1enterprises already so I just added a flasher unit since it was really cheap. I'm hoping that does the trick. If not, I'm only out $2.50.

With both sides doing that, I'd suspect the flasher unit first.

My 550ltd had running lights in front but not in back. Blinkers all worked tho.

Stock bikes usually do have only dual filament running/turn signal bulbs in front to create the amber running lights. A lot of people add the dual filament bulbs to the rears to get running lights there too.

The bike originally came with a bi-metallic flasher. The $2.50 flasher is also likely bi-metallic (the Z1 web site doesn't specify). The replacement will probably work fine, but in the event that it does not, I recommend an all-electronic solid state flasher. They go for $7-$10 at your local auto parts store.

If all four amber lights light up and there hasn't been a modification made to the system I'd start checking wiring. I agree with the suggestion to use an electronic flasher unit in place of the old style and if all else fails.... you did check the blinker fluid, right? :woohoo:

Thanks for the advice here. My flasher unit should be in this week from Z1.
