76 kz750b twin no spark
19 Nov 2008 05:30
Thanks for all the help in the past. I finally got the parts to fix what I thought was wrong but I'm still having problems. New coil, condenser, and points. Still no spark at the plugs. both wires going to the coil are hot, blue and yellow. Are they supposed to be? Did the wired George mod and am getting 12 volts to coil and points. Do I have a short/open circuit? Any help would be appreciated. I am not opposed to undoing the complete wiring harness if that is where I should go, but I want to avoid it if possible. Thanks.

Battery positive goes into one coil terminal and out the other terminal through the closed points to ground.
When the points open, the connection from coil to ground is broken, which causes the coil to fire.
Good Luck!
Edited to delete confusing reference to 4 cylinder dual-coil application.

Anyone recommend a specific spark plug for a '76 750b twin?

The coil positive primary terminal should have a red or yellow-red wire on it that reads +12V with key on. The negative primary wire is the one that goes to the points, probably blue or some dark color.
With the key OFF, you can use an Ohm meter to check the neg terminal: it should read open (infinite resistance) to ground when the points are open, and read a short to ground with the points closed.

I let the plugs dry overnight and saw that they were firing very weak close to where the electrode meets the porcelain. New ngk plugs and she came alive after 2 years of tinkering and rebuilding. Thanks for all your help.
