So, I was working on my bike, and forgot to turn the key to off, so the headlight drained the battery. I had to jump start the bike.

Now, I have to jump start it every time after I've parked it overnight. Also, it won't start with the choke open anymore. Is this related with the battery issue? Not enough electricity?

What should I do (I'm a newb).

I forgot to add, it's an 81 kz440 ltd-a2

As Plummen replied, could be just a faulty battery.

I don;t know the 440 series electronics so please excuse if speaking out of turn here...

Are the battery terminals all coroded (battery acid paste)?

Another way to test, disconnect the (+) off the battery and after sitting all night, re-connect and see if she still holds a charge.

Shorted diode somewhere in rectifier, in-line, switch to power etc... for something is draining the battery.

Is the charging ciruit itself working?
DVM with bike running should be ~ 13-14.5Vdc.

DVM current measurement, with bike off for parked overnight, is current being measured?

yeah, i was just trying to charge it with the bike... i guess that the problem?

How about the choke issue, could that be related to the battery?

Imo, No.

Tip -- If the carb has an enrichener circuit (adds fuel mixture) as opposed to a true choke (reduces air intake), when first cranking up a cold engine and using the enrichener circuit by lifting the "choke" lever, do NOT even touch the throttle. With an enrichener circuit, the choke is designed to function with the throttle completely closed, and this would apply regardless of whether using kick starter or starter motor.

Good Luck! :)
