tinting gauges

has anyone ever tried tinting theglass on gauges before?i took a set apart and put blue stained glass in them once but it was too dark couldnt read the numbers but they sure looked cool!:woohoo: has anybody got any ideas how to do this?;)

Smoke-tint taillights are sometimes made with tint spray . but how can you be sure you will be able to read the numbers?
