need help with electical prob. was created by bparker
I have a 1984 zn1100 b1 ltd i have developed a short somewhere. when i turn the key on the fuse for the horn pops. i have changed the ignition switch because it was worn out. i have changed the turn single and horn switch assembly. i checked the rectifier and found the wire that goes directly to the igniter had burnt the conector on the rectifier end. i spliced a new end and replacced the rectifier.

turned on key and fuse blew again. i love this old bike just had a custom paint job and really want to get some miles in before winter. bike still runs though. any suggestions

These kind of things are terrible to diagnose. Get a schematic and start pruning one line at a time off the power feed that is popping the fuse: unplug stuff and see what line is popping the fuse. When you find that line, try to zero in on the part that is flaky.

is it possible the new body work and your electrical problem are related, maybe pinched of a wire or one has rubbed thru when you put the body work back on. option 2 pull the horn of and hook- up 12 volts to directly and see if it blows if it does you have eliminated part of the problem and since you have the horn out of the system put another fuse in and see if it blows.that might solve your problem.
