im on a roll here tonight guys! ive been tossing the idea of mounting a small 12v fan between backbone tubes in the area where coils normally sit to pull air over the top side of motor while idling, does anybody know of some kind of a small motor that would fit and still be able to handle the heat generated?everybody gave me hell about progress so here i go again!

they used to make computer fans up to 90mm that would move 120cfm and spun at roughly the speed of light. i thought about putting one on my oil cooler.:woohoo:

edit: called "tornadoes" and they are 12v
edit #2: around 80 decibels too
edit #3: www.google.com/product_url?q=http://cabl...gl=us&hl=en&sa=title
edit#4: mmmmmmmm edits yum

no prob, oh and be mindful of the blades i lost a nail on one :S it's what happens when you try changing comp parts with those blades running.

Buy the small chrome fan guards that go in front of them. Worth the extra few bucks.

BTW: those fans usually run on DC motors which have a solid state controller inside that regulates speed and limits current in case the fan is blocked (stalled). I don't think those controllers will like getting too hot?

no telling. i have a habit of making things just to see them ignite in a giant fireball or not. I think he'll be fine and if not he ruined a 11 dollar fan. Some of these fans can take a bit of heat.

By coincidence, I used to design cooling systems for electronic equipment.

I can't help but wonder if that small fan would actually do anything? In electronic systems, those fans are designed to deal with power dissipation of maybe ten or twenty Watts. A bike engine is probably dissipating thousands of Watts or more.

hmmm you don't have a whole lot of spare power to be throwing into a cooling system other then using a fan off a water cooled bike. Would getting a small fan and using it on an external oil cooler be a better idea?

maybe a temp controlled methanol injeciton? cools the engine internally and prevents preignition.
