Wiring harness routing, kz750-four
14 Oct 2008 23:44
My son bought a "basket-case" 1980 kz750four. I see from this site that these bikes have quite a loyal following. Our first project has been to recondition the main wiring harness. It was a mess but most missing connectors have now been replaced or spliced back into place. Can anyone describe the basic path this harness takes? More specifically, as the harness goes forward under the three upper frame tubes under the gas tank, where does it exit this area and what path does it take to get up to the headlight area. The headlight is currently missing but from the big gasket on the harness I assume the wires mostly end up inside the headlight to make their connections?

On my 82GPZ1100 B2 the main harness runs under the backbone of the frame and comes up the left side going up to the headlight housing where most major connections take place.

Thanks, I now have it running under the "backbone" and exiting forward throught the triangular opening in the frame just above the left coil. That seems to be the only way it works well and the tank can still fit on. Next project: new brushes for the starter and keep fingers crossed that the starter clutch is OK.
