Maybe the front brake light switch isn't missing, but just hidden in the area behind the headlight shell (where the two loose wires could reach it). If so, it's anybody's guess why the wires were pulled off the switch and not re-attached. Maybe the rear brake light stayed on all the time. Who knows. Maybe the Shadow knows.
Anyhow, the switch is about as big around as a nickel and should look something like this.
Good Luck!
EDIT -- The 1983 KZ750 twin uses a uses a different switch. (See later posts).
found two hanging wires, guess the switch is gone. where can i get one?

You are correct
and I was wrong
about the front brake switch location on the 1983 KZ750 twin, which according to Kawasaki.com parts diagram does indeed have the switch integral to the master cylinder.
Hope a replacement switch is available.
Good Luck!
hmm.. here's a pic. don't know how these would reach anywhere else....

having trouble rationalizing how in the hell this thing actually works, as it's not connected to the lever at all.. does the pressure sensing come from the brake itself, or elsewhere?

Here's the parts diagram from Kawasaki.com showing #27010 as the brake switch.
Am uncertain as to exactly which brake function is supposed to activate the switch.
