Advancer for other bikes?
29 Sep 2008 10:51
CRAP!!!
while messing with the advancer, the to pins that catch the "fake" 17mm nut broke off...looks like i need a new advancer. short of going to the stealership and paying out the nose, would other advancers from other year kz work, like a kz200 or 1000?
or how about converting over to electronic ignition?
any help would be greatly appriciated.
thanks,
Brian

You can use the stock IE's from the 750 M's & K's as well as the 440's. These are all twins. You're still gonna have to replace that fake nut. If you pick up an IE from a bike boneyard, you'll probably be able to get that "nut", also. I believe a few members have done this mod.
You might want to put your bikes specs and general location, in your sig line. It helps w/the advice and someone may be nearby and can help. The members also wantneed pics, they can be anything, but your bike pics are premium...in any state of repair. Welcome.

thanks...
i'll get some pics up, but all i have of the bike is the motor. the motor is actually in an off road kart/buggy.
by IE, would you mean Electronic Ignition? if so, what, exactly do i need? new coil, advancer, pick ups? cdi box? confused, as my motorcycle knowledge is of 2 stroke dirt bikes, just getting into thumpers...

Parts from 82-83 (84 in Canada) 750 twin, or KZ440 with electronic ignition.
Timing advancer.
Ignition Pickup.
Igniter.
The four prong square plug on the wiring harness that plugs into the igniter.
Finding the parts is the hard part, the conversion is easy.
