For the most part, any 12Vdc horn that fits will work... Find one with the highest decibel (db) rating you can find. The higher the number the louder the horn...

Any local motorcycle store usually has them in stock in the price range from $15 and up pending what your looking for.

Stock horns come up regularly on ebay.

Horns that "beep" are not as loud as horns that "honk," i.e. air horns. You can get modern air horns that have the compressor built-in, mount easily, and require no rewiring.

Here is a thread from last year describing my horn upgrade. The last post in the thread has some interesting links.

Good luck and keep us posted on any new products you discover.

My horn of choice is the Stebel Nautilus. It's 139db. You can find them on ebay in the $40 - $50 range but sometimes I've seen them much cheaper. They come with a 12 volt relay and are wired in ala WiredGeorge's coil mod in that the original trigger wire switches the relay which delivers full battery power to the horn.

Hint: should you do this horn installation, tip your mechanic to check the horn outside before rolling the bike in for an inspection. B)

The Nautilus requires one bolt to mount and I have mine mounted in the original horn location on the 1000. The 1000 originally had twin horns and IMHO the Nautilus is no more or no less ugly than the original horns. On the 550, I have a Vetter fairing and the horn is kind of tucked up behind it and does not show at all. The Nautilus needs no compressor and the only restrictions are the angle at which it can be mounted is limited and the air intake has to face backwards and not into the wind. (They supply a tube to route the intake if needed.)

Spend all my money on bike parts and gas, no digital camera. I'll see if I can get my friend to take some and post ASAP.
