Just wondering, I happened to notice that when I hit the brakes and the light comes on, the headlight dims...is that normal?

If the engine is idling (and you are running off the battery) it could very well dim the headlight if you step on the brake, but the effect should be small.

FYI, you can actually see the headlights dim and brighten a little as you let the engine drop to idle then rev it a bit. The reason is:

At idle, when you are running off the battery, the system voltage is about 12.5V. When you rev it, the bike's system voltage rises to 14V and that makes all the lights a little brighter.
